Since Pre-Colombian Times

In the rural La Chamba region, in Colombia, a mica rich clay is collected from the farmlands along one of the country's largest rivers. It is then carefully hand formed into one of-a-kind traditional shapes.

After drying, a layer of local red clay is applied and semi precious stones called 'aghata' are used for polishing.

Once the pottery has been fired, a coarse organic mixture is quickly applied to each piece. A natural reactive process is absorbed into the porous clay and the characteristic deep black natural colour is left behind.

Benzer Urban cookware is lead free and offers long term heat retention. It can be placed directly on an open flame (grill or stove top) and is safe in oven or microwave. A diffuser is recommended for electric cooktops.

Care:
Before your first use, cure each piece by adding water or milk 3/4 full and heating in a 175 degree celcius oven for at least 30 minutes.

Hand washing is suggested using only soap and water.

Some discolouration is natural after many years.

With proper care, Benzer Urban cookware will last a lifetime.
