Burleigh – Queens Jubilee God Bless our Queen 25.5cm Plate Blue (Hand Made in England)
-Exclusive to Victoria’s Basement – Burleigh are proud to be once again celebrating a Royal occasion, with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. We have brought out a specially designed Mug and Plate. Available in two distinctive colourways, each item has been handcrafted in the UK at our 124 year old factory, using the traditional techniques that remain at the very heart of Burleigh pottery. We are going to have plenty to celebrate this year, with the Olympic games and the Diamond Jubilee both big events for the summer of 2012. Jubilee’s have been celebrated by Monarchs for time in memorial but only one other Monarch, Queen Victoria, has celebrated 60 years on the throne.Whether a true royalist, an interested spectator, or even dare we say slightly indifferent, this years celebrations can be seen as a big milestone for everyone. It’s not all about the big events. Small get togethers and street parties proved very popular last year, during the Royal Wedding and do we ever need an excuse for a cup of tea and a slice of cake!Over the last 60 years the whole world has seen immense change.
We have gone from the post war turmoil of the 1950’s, through a whole host of scientific, technological and political advances.
Fashions have come and gone, and even the way we communicate with each other has developed beyond all recognition. One constant we have all had throughout this time has been her majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen has been the quiet observer, a head of state, church, and commonwealth for longer than most of us have been born.
Yet with time the Monarchy has moved with the times as each year passes, becoming the institution we have today, steeped in tradition, yet embracing the world we all live in.Although the actual Jubilee weekend will not be until June, we will have a whole host of exiting days before then.
With the big occasion itself over the first weekend of June, when we will see London come to life in a great variety of ways.
For those of us outside London, we will have plenty of opportunity to see the queen through April and May. Both Her Majesty and Prince Philip will tour various regions of the UK, with the rest of the royal family representing the Queen overseas.
So enjoy the year, and watch out for lots of celebration pottery from Burleigh.
