Peacock tapestry the Design of the Peacock Tapestry is from the The Forestry one of the finest collaborative tapestries designed by William Morris in wich he coordinated the talents of his associates.
The Peacock itself was designed by Philip Web, based on a charming series of drawings and incorporated by Morris into a background of swirling acanthus leaves, in the style of his first tapestry, ‘Vine and Acanthus’ (1879)
William Morris (24th March 1834 – 3rd October 1896)
William Morris was a British textile designer , poet, novelist, translator and socialist activist.
Associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement, he was a Major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. William Morris is recoginised as one of the most significant cultural figures of Victorian Britain.
Though best known in his lifetime as a poet, he posthumously became better known for his designs.
